BioMarin is pleased to offer a generous and comprehensive benefits program.

The following is a list of some of the benefits offered to full-time employees of BioMarin:

  • Medical Insurance

    Employees have four medical plans to choose from—Anthem Blue Cross High Deductible Health Plan, Anthem Blue Cross PPO, Anthem Blue Cross HMO and Kaiser. All medical plans include prescription drug benefits. Employee contributions (10-20% of premiums) are deducted from bi-weekly paychecks on a pre-tax basis.
  • Dental Insurance

    Employees may elect to participate in a PPO dental plan offered by Delta Dental. Employee contributions (10-20% of premiums) are deducted from bi-weekly paychecks on a pre-tax basis.
  • Vision Insurance

    Employees may elect to participate in a PPO vision plan offered by VSP. Employee contributions are deducted from bi-weekly paychecks on a pre-tax basis.
  • Life/AD&D

    Life/AD&D for employees is provided by CIGNA. A company-paid benefit that covers two-times the employee’s annual salary, up to a maximum of $600,000.
  • Short-Term Disability

    A company-paid benefit, employees qualifying for Short-Term Disability are eligible to receive 66.67% of their monthly salary (after a 7 day waiting period) to a maximum of $2,350/week, up to 26 weeks.
  • Long-Term Disability

    A company-paid benefit, employees qualifying for Long-Term Disability are eligible to receive 66.67% of base salary, to a $10,000 maximum monthly benefit.
  • Retirement Savings Plan 401(k)

    Employees may participate in the BioMarin Retirement Savings Plan administered by Charles Schwab. Employees may contribute a percentage of eligible compensation to a traditional or ROTH 401(k), not to exceed the maximum IRS annual limit. The company also provides a match of 100% of the first 3% of an employee’s compensation with a four-year vesting period. This will increase to a 6% match, with immediate vesting, effective July 6, 2014.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP)

    Employees may elect to participate by contributing 1 to 10% of straight time earnings (after tax deductions) to purchase BioMarin stock at a discounted rate. Open Enrollment occurs every April and October. Eligible employees must be employed at least six months prior to the start of Open Enrollment.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

    BioMarin offers health care and dependent care reimbursement accounts to all eligible employees. These accounts give employees the option to set aside pre-tax dollars each paycheck to cover medical expenses not covered by insurance to a maximum of $2,500 per year, and dependent care expenses up to $5,000 per year. Qualified transit reimbursement is also available to those who vanpool, or take public transportation to/from work.
  • Health Savings Accounts (HSA)

    BioMarin offers a HSA to employees who participate in the Anthem High Deductible Health Plan. This account gives employees the option to set aside pre-tax dollars each paycheck to cover medical expenses not covered by insurance. BioMarin will contribute up to half the annual deductible into the employee’s HSA.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

    This is a confidential program for employees requiring counseling and referral service that utilizes a network of professionals, including financial and legal services.
  • Vacation Time

    Employees accrue 15 days per year on a biweekly basis. After the fourth full year of employment, employees will accrue 20 days per year on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Sick Time

    Employees accrue 10 days per year on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Holidays

    BioMarin provides nine to ten paid holidays per year. In addition, the company will provide one personal holiday per year (if hired on or before June 30).
  • Education Assistance Program

    Regular full-time employees are eligible after six months of employment to receive up to $5,250 per year in reimbursement of qualifying tuition and textbooks for classes directly related to their current job.
  • Leave of Absence

    The company may grant a leave of absence to accommodate an employee’s medical, maternity, family or personal needs.
  • Other Benefits (offered in various locations)

    Weight Watchers subsidy, 24/7 access to on-site gym (in San Rafael, Novato and Brisbane), discounted pet insurance, free-lunch on-site most Fridays, bagels, donuts and fruit every Wednesday, on-site weekly chair massage, annual holiday gala and monthly ‘Coolers’.
