Lewis Chapman

Vice President, Global Marketing

Mr. Chapman joined BioMarin as Vice President, Global Marketing in July 2007. Mr. Chapman is a seasoned marketing, sales and business development executive with over 30 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical and medical device industries. Most recently, 2004 through 2006 he was an officer of Alpha Innotech Corporation and served as Vice President Global Marketing and Sales. Under his leadership, revenue declines in previous years were reversed resulting in 10 consecutive quarters of double-digit growth.

Mr. Chapman started his career in pharmaceuticals with Eli Lilly & Company. During his ten years there, he worked in field sales and progressed to home office assignments in marketing management and business development. From there Mr. Chapman moved into product management roles at Syntex (Naprosyn®) and then Genentech. As Activase® (t-PA), Product Manager, he led the global commercial launch of the largest biopharm product launch in the history of the industry up to that time; first year sales $187 million. Subsequently he held senior positions in start-up biotech and medical device companies and gained extensive experience marketing niche and specialty products. Mr. Chapman contributed to the formation of the marketing and sales departments at Triton Biosciences/Berlex Labs (Oncology/Immunology SBU). He was instrumental in helping the business unit grow from a research and development start-up to an operations-based enterprise with commercialized products. This included the successful introductions of Fludara® and Betaseron®, the latter setting another first year sales record of $206 million. In another career milestone, sales growth achieved at VidaMed under his leadership as VP Global Marketing and Sales resulted in its acquisition by Medtronic for $326 million in 2002.

Mr. Chapman holds a B.S. in biological sciences from the University of California, Davis, and an M.B.A. from Southern Illinois University.
